We live in a world inundated with texts, emails, IM's, tweets, Instagram pics, and all other means of social media that allows us to share something with people all over the place, even all over the world, but do we really connect? Is it really better to text than call? Is it better to share a pic and chat on Instagram or actually stop by in person?
Thank the Lord he did not settle in how he connected to his people. No, the Scriptures tell us that Jesus, "the Word became flesh and dwelt among us..." (John 1:14) His coming was actual, it was personal, and it was intimate, deeper than just sending a message via electronic medium.
The apostle John tells in 1 John 1 that he saw Jesus with his own eyes, heard Jesus with his own ears, touched Jesus with his own hands. That kind of connection was what drove John to then show, tell, and touch others with the gospel message, hoping that they might share in fellowship with the Lord, too!
Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying we should all delete our social media accounts and throw away all our smart phones. But, what I am saying is that we truly ought to reconsider how deeply we communicate with others. Consider it a challenge, would you move a step closer today to really make that connection with someone?
